Money Buddies are delighted to announce a partnership with Trussell Trust.
Foodbank usage has grown significantly in recent years as economic downturns, changes in the benefits system, job insecurity and the effects of Covid has disrupted and disturbed the lives of millions of people.
More people are using and relying on foodbanks. Foodbank use has increased by 14% compared to pre- pandemic, with 2.1million food parcels provided to people in crisis in the year 21/22. This is expected to increase over the coming year.
One of the primary reasons why foodbank usage has increased is because of debt, the stigma it holds and the effects it has on mental health. Trussell Trust has a goal of eliminating the need for foodbanks.
With debt and money issues being at the heart of the problem for many people, Trussell Trust has joined forces with Money Buddies, so that foodbank users can access; FREE impartial, non-judgemental debt advice, budgeting, income maximisation, benefits guidance, form filling and money confidence building skills, quickly and confidentially.
As of this September, Money Buddies will be at Twelve Trussell Trust Foodbanks throughout Leeds. They will provide a half day weekly debt and money advice service for food bank users, till at least September 2024. This support may be extended to September 2025.
